Visible from the Great Seto Ōhashi Bridge, Honjima lies faceted into the blue waters of the Seto Inland like an enormous emerald. One of the largest of the Shiwaku Islands.

Long inhabited by intrepid sailors, fishermen, merchants, and stone masons, the lives of these myriad people have been strongly influenced by the ebb and flow of the currents and the rise and fall of the tide, making them highly attuned and aware to the not always ideal changes to the local eco-system.
