Setouchi Triennale Official Tour Tsuda Island Trip
A bus tour departing every Saturday afternoon to enjoy the Shido, Tsuda, and Hiketa areas, where the art festival will be held for the first time, until the evening.
In Shido, which flourished as a temple town along the Shikoku 88 temple Pilgrimage and is also the birthplace of Hiraga Gennai, a genius inventor from the Edo period, you can stroll through the historical townscape and unique artworks. In Tsuda, you can enjoy the spectacular scenery created by the Neagari Matsu (raised-root pine tree) and outdoor artworks. In Hiketa, you will have the opportunity to tour one of the glove factories that holds the top market share in Japan. There, you can witness the delicate craftsmanship of skilled artisans up close. Afterwards, you will stroll through the quaint townscape and the artworks scattered around. For dinner, visitors can enjoy special local dishes lovingly prepared by local mothers.

A weekly Saturday afternoon bus tour to explore the Shido–Tsuda and Hiketa area, where the Setouchi Triennale will be held for the first time.
In Shido, a historic temple town that once thrived as a gateway to the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage and the birthplace of Edo-period genius inventor Gennai Hiraga, you'll stroll through charming streets rich in history and encounter original art installations. In Tsuda, enjoy a breathtaking view where the iconic “floating” pine tree and outdoor artworks create a stunning harmony with nature. Important Notes for Participants |
Some parts of the tour require walking from the bus parking area to the artwork. Please wear comfortable shoes.
To prevent heatstroke during the tour, please drink water regularly and wear a hat. Please follow the guide and tour conductor’s instructions and be on time for meeting points. Please take all your belongings and trash back home with you. If you need to leave the tour midway, please inform the tour conductor and fill out a departure form. Please be respectful in residential areas: don’t block roads or speak loudly. |
