Setouchi Triennale Official Tour Shido Island Trip
A special tour through the historically rich towns of Shido and Hiketa, where you can explore nostalgic streetscapes and unique artworks. This tour features an official event of the art festival: a live reading by actress Kaho Minami of an original picture book written by children's author Marina Moskvina, inspired by the legacy of Hiketa, Japan’s top glove-producing region.
<br>
The venue for the reading is KASAYA Social / Performance Space + Artwork, located next to the Glove Gallery in Hiketa. This historic former sake brewery has been transformed into a new art venue, and the live reading will serve as its grand opening performance—offering a memorable moment of storytelling in a beautifully reimagined space.
<br>
Before and after the event, you will have the opportunity to tour one of Hiketa’s glove factory, which holds the top market share in Japan. There, you can witness the delicate craftsmanship of skilled artisans up close.
<br>
For lunch, visitors can enjoy special local dishes lovingly prepared by locals.
In Shido, which flourished as a temple town along the Shikoku 88 temple Pilgrimage and is also the birthplace of Hiraga Gennai, a genius inventor from the Edo period, you can stroll through the historical townscape and unique artworks. In Tsuda, you can enjoy the spectacular scenery created by the Neagari Matsu (raised-root pine tree) and outdoor artworks. In Hiketa, you will have the opportunity to tour one of the glove factories that holds the top market share in Japan. There, you can witness the delicate craftsmanship of skilled artisans up close. Afterwards, you will stroll through the quaint townscape and the artworks scattered around. For dinner, visitors can enjoy special local dishes lovingly prepared by local mothers.
