Setouchi Triennale Official Tour Honjima Island Trip
This one-day charter boat and bus tour departs every Saturday and visits the Utazu area, where the art festival will be held for the first time, and Honjima, the center of the Shiwaku Islands.
On Honjima, you'll visit the Kasajima district, a nationally designated Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, where you can thoroughly enjoy indoor art amidst the historic townscape. Furthermore, in the Tomari district, you'll see new artwork in which messages from local residents are embroidered using clothing and accessories collected from local residents.
Next, in Utazu's waterfront area, overlooking the Seto Inland Sea, you'll get a close-up look at outdoor art made from acrylic panels, the same type used in aquarium tanks. Furthermore, you'll stroll through the charming Komachi area, lined with historic townhouses and shrines and temples, including the impressive "Kuranoyakata Sankakutei" stained-glass triangular tower. You'll encounter artworks that evoke the area's history as a prosperous salt-producing region.
For lunch, you'll enjoy an bento lunch box, lovingly prepared by residents of Honjima, featuring octopus rice, using octopus that was caught in nearby waters.
